A Christmas Greeting

from the lyrics of my favourite christmas song...

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Helps to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeers really know how to fly

And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas To You.

-"The Christmas Song" by Torme and Wells, 1946

fa la la la la la la la la

Happy Christmas Eve!

made a little observation while shopping for presents...

the people who are supposed to do christmas shopping, i.e. grown-ups, many do not actually enjoy / want to do it. the crowd, the noise, the frenzy...and the fact that we're all on a budget but have an endless list (if u buy for one colleague then u better buy for all), doesn't really make gift shopping an easy task.

on the other hand, the people who don't need to do christmas shopping, i.e. babies, have the best time on such trips. one, they don't even need to walk, because they can't (toddlers not included). two, they are comfortably snuggled up in a pretty pram, sleeping or waking as and when they want to. three, if an adult is feeling peckish (for example, the husband), other adults (for example, the wife) still has a right to keep shopping and ignore the hungry individual's request to break for food. but if a baby wants to eat, then there's no other way. the whole shopping cohort simply HAS to halt all action and immediately feed the bundle of joy, or in this case, a relentless, uncompromising, wailing bundle of not-too-much joy.

being a baby: a once-in-a-lifetime privilege. being a baby when you're not supposed to already: a nuisance. (i sound like a mastercard ad.)

----------------------------------------------------

oh! i caught The Beach starring Leonardo Dicaprio on TV. cool. have heard so much about the movie and always wanted to watch it but never actually got down to it. (another such movie is Forrest Gump. yes, "GASP*! i've never watched Forrest Gump) switched the telebee on and viola! just in time for opening credits. nice. feels exactly like when u unexpectedly find a two dollar note in the pocket of those jeans u've not worn for the longest time.

but, after going online to search for info about the movie and finding out that there was a lawsuit regarding damage to the beach due to landscaping and bulldozing by movie producers, not so cool after all.

---------------------------------------------------

there're some moments in life when u are totally comfortable with your surroundings, your mind is not on anything nor nothing, you are just content and at ease. i'm experiencing such a moment while keying this entry in my bedroom. and i'm grateful for it. beautiful.

speaking of beauty, here's a quote about beauty from <浪漫的逃亡> by 五月天阿信:

"美,是对抗世界不停蹦毁的自然定律、是费尽心思挽留定格感动的无尽追求。美,是心思被触动的渺小一瞬、是人类脱离兽性的痛苦过程。“

nice.

Chashin - the place for tea

good company, the fact that i was on leave and had sufficient sleep, and a perfect place to have tea and chat the afternoon away made my thursday...rewardingly restful.

Chashin's located at 6 Handy Road, beside The Cathay, at this new building called Luxe. there's an art gallery behind the tea place, a nice combination. my friend ordered the japanese rice tea:

and i had the hot lychee tea.

of course, the foodie in me just couldn't resist trying out some snacks on the menu, and i chose the milk and honey jelly (which i loved but my friend wasn't so crazy about).

a pleasant surprise: the nice lady boss presented us with a apple cake!

we stayed and talked (agenda-lessly, randomly and comfortably) for over 3 hours. a rare luxury, i'm sure u know what i mean. i'm selfishly hoping this place will remain as it was yesterday: quiet, but that would mean it may have to close coz there isn't enough business and i'm sure it won't coz more and more people r bound to find out about it and love it and frequent it. oh well, good things get better when shared, yeah? :)

practice makes perfect (pictures)

someone ever made a comment that i don't quite know how to pose for the camera. i agree and i think that person meant well. in this business, not knowing how to face the lens can be mildly to extremely damaging, depending on how bad the photo is of course. still trying to get good at the art of posing. and smiling. i guess taking more pictures can help.
hmm...i like this look. sharp and a bit cold. not like the usual pf, more intriguing. :) (picture taken with the new Sony Ericsson c905 cybershot 8.1 mega pixels camera phone)

ah. on a very different note, let's take some time to appreciate the lyrics of a very impressive song from some time ago that i'm recently re-listening to.

U2 - One

"One" is the third single from U2's 1991 album, Achtung Baby, and was released in 1992. It is widely considered to be one of the band's greatest songs and is consistently featured in lists of the greatest songs of all time. It was named the 36th greatest song by Rolling Stone on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

During the recording of Achtung Baby, tensions in the band began to rise over the direction of the album. Bono and The Edge favored electronica and dance music explorations, while Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam Clayton preferred a traditional rock approach. U2 was on the brink of breaking up when the band rallied around a riff The Edge was trying to write for the bridge of "Ultraviolet (Light My Way)". It inspired the band to write "One," and it changed the band's outlook on the album, helping bring a renewed sense of optimism towards the material they had already recorded. Leaving Berlin on a high note, the band was able to complete the rest of the album in Dublin. For this reason it is widely considered, by the band and fans, to be the song that saved U2.

In 1993, speaking to Robert Hilburn of the Los Angeles Times, Bono offered a more ambiguous meaning to the lyrics, saying "It is a song about coming together, but it's not the old hippie idea of 'Let's all live together.' It is, in fact, the opposite. It's saying, We are one, but we're not the same. It's not saying we even want to get along, but that we have to get along together in this world if it is to survive. It's a reminder that we have no choice"
.

info from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you now
You got someone to blame
You say...

One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night
One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don't care for it

Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it's...

Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other
One...

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head

Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got
We're one
But we're not the same
Well we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers
One life
But we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

One...life

Post 金曲奖

if you walk past a magazine stand any of these days and happen to spot someone on the cover of a magazine that looks a little like me, then it may just be.

hee.

am very honoured to be chosen to appear on the cover of the Nov issue of Oh Taste (味之道), a monthly food magazine. would like to thank jacky and 爱薇 for the article, alvin and smith from wizards of light for the pictures, and zeus for the make-up. i did notice one thing tho...kinda thot my face looked a little unfamiliar to myself at first sight, and, after studying it closely, i realised y. the cover pic has been mirror-imaged...flipped...i dunno wat's the technical term for it. but the original pic looked like this:

can tell the difference? i'm wondering if they did it to 迁就 the words...not very used to seeing myself flipped horizontally around...haha. i like the artistic direction tho. i'm holding some soil and a green plant in my hand. if u watched Wall-E, u'd get the idea.

n i do like the pics inside! so...if u can...support a bit la. :) besides the interview in which i offer some tips to being eco-friendly, i've also shared a Watermelon Feta Salad recipe that's reallie simple (trust me, if i can do it, so can u). Oh Taste november is out in all good magazine stands / book stores and it costs just $5 per copy. wah. getting a bit hard sell here. okie i'll stop. but do try to get a copy k? ok i am stopping. like now. :)

post-magic

We constantly yearn for something magical, exciting and out of the ordinary to spice up our mundane lives. But after something amazing happens, it is difficult to come to terms with the harsh reality that whatever it was is over, that it will forever be a distant memory (and may even be dismissed by others as a figment of our imagination upon recollection in future), that our lives go back to being mundane from now on. The lingering, bittersweet aftertaste of magic is an addiction far worse than the most potent of drugs.

live from taipei

it's like 2.36 am now.

but i am still packing! haha...as much as i tell myself not to shop too much, there's just no running away from all those lovely tops and dresses and boots and jackets and books and stationary...so even though i only changed 250 SGD, the existence of such a thing called the credit card has allowed me to shop beyond my cash limit.

i have decided that 诚品 is officially one of my most favourite places to shop...and my most favourite place to shop alone. i can totally sit on one of their staircases and read for hours and hours...

oh wait. the main point of my trip is jay chou! not shopping.

yes, attended his press conference this afternoon. very interesting coz it was held at an unusual place. not the usual grand 6 star hotel ballroom, but in a film studio that looks like this on the outside...

with a stage that looks like this inside.

cool rite. take a look up close.

okok...before u get impatient and start cursing me...haha, here's a pic with jay in it.

not enough? this one should do.

enjoy...and do stay tuned to Yes 933 for the special report on 魔杰座's press conference and the interview with Jay!

P.S. he performed magic tricks and i managed to record it down on video. watch out for it on yes933.sg. :)

A Someone Story

been wanting to do this someone story for quite awhile. coz i've heard many interesting stories that cannot be presented as the true full story for reasons that cannot be explicated.

okie here goes.

Someone and Someone Else are both apple pie makers.

Someone suggested to Someone Else, out of goodwill, a way to buy good quality apples.

Someone said, "Maybe you should try and get to know the apple seller better, and he'll give you the best quality apples!"

Somone Else replied, "No. I will not rely on personal relationships to get good apples."

Someone was impressed by Someone Else's integrity.

However, soon after, Someone found out from a friend that Someone Else actually had tea with the apple seller.

So much for integrity.

Busy

i've always thought the word busy doesn't sound busy enough.

it's too long.

i mean, when someone's really really so busy, there's just no time to pronounce a word with more than one syllable, much less spell it with 4 letters. why can't busy be just "bu" or "sy"? u know, like, "i'm bu. talk to you later." or "i'm sy, call you later." by slashing one syllable off the word, precious milliseconds can be saved. and every millisecond counts when u're bu. or sy.

which brings me to my next point. those who keep complaining that they're so busy, they're really not that busy. coz if u're so busy, u'll have no time at all to think about how busy you are, much less complain about it. (unless someone else brings up the point with a question like, "u look tired, are u busy?" or "how's life?")

as u can see, i'm not very busy right now. because i have the time to ponder about the concept of being busy. am grateful for the luxury of time to spend on such musings.

but i've been busy. with the following...

215的约定

as creator/co-writer/actress, i'm keeping my fingers crossed n hoping that 933's latest radio drama will be well-received. so far, i've received a few encouraging comments. on behalf of the whole 933 team, thank you for your support. do let me know your thoughts too, if you have any. :)

the script came from an inspiration to write a story about realizing dreams. and since 933 is a pop music station and i'm a DJ, what better topic to write a radio drama about than the music industry? chong qing shared the same idea, and so we decided to combine forces and put our ideas into action.

broadcast timings are 930am, 230pm, 730pm and 1030pm. if u missed any episodes, do visit the official website: www.mediacorpradio.sg/yes933/215
just click on the arrow at the bottom left corner of the picture, and u can read online the actual scripts of each episode.

想你的时候

my 2nd attempt at acting. but this was very different from the children's drama i did earlier, mainly because this is a telemovie and the story is more emotional. there're two main parts to the story, one is about family and the other about love. dun wanna disclose too much information yet, but i must say i was very moved by the story when i first read the script. my biggest worry was whether i could cry on cue...so much that i even went online to google "how to cry on cue". haha. had fun working with the director, make-artists, stylists, filming crew, and of course 琼芳姐, dasmond, joshua, and all the other very talented actors and actresses, from whom i'm learnt a whole lot.

the movie will be out on DVD sometime october, if everything goes as planned. please do support? thanks! :) here're some pics from filming...

when we filmed on the 13th of sept, the team prepared a birthday cake for me...very touched. thank you all! :)

非常Superband 2

if you've been following the competition, u'd know by now that we're nearing the finals. how time flies. and i'm very very thankful for this experience, learnt so much from it. finals are on the 5th of oct, sunday, and besides the intense competition among the final 4, there will be performances by 五月天, Beyond, and bands from the 1st season of Superband, including champions 迷路兵. dunno about you, but i'm definitely so looking forward to it!

创作初体验

enjoyed interviewing 小寒 very much. her unassuming and sisterly demeanour belies her talents and accomplishments, though her warmness wasn't a surprise to me because i've interviewed her before.

创作初体验 is aired on wednesdays at 830pm and repeats on saturdays at 1030am. xiaohan's interview, in which she shares very interesting stories about lyrics she has written, is edited into 2 parts and broadcasts this and next week, and i'll be interviewing 包小松 very soon. stay tuned...

this post is getting a bit long huh.

but this next part is a must. a big thank you to all who've given me birthday wishes/gifts in one way or another, and, this reply is a bit late, but to those who noticed the plaster on my elbow a few weeks ago, yes, i did bump my elbow and wounded it, but it's all well now! thank you for your concern. :)

and now, time to get bu/sy again...

Appalling

Don't remember when this weird habit began, but i'm on a constant subconcious observation effort to note if the weather on SUNdays are, in fact, really sunny. so far, inconclusive records are in support of my hypothesis: in Singapore, sundays are really more likely to be sunny than not.

well, today was an exception.

looking out on the blurry cityscape bathing in the roaring storm, i'm reminded of a childhood rhyme: "rain, rain go away, come again another day, little children want to play..."

well, those little children who used to want to play on rainy days would eventually grow up into big adults who just want to curl up on the couch in front of the TV and vegetate, only moving to open the door when the long awaited fast food delivery arrives.

home delivery. the perfect answer to "what's for lunch/dinner?" on a lazy, drizzly sunday.

BUT.

having happily found the number to call and chosen a certain "couple meal set B" from *FC's website, the obstacles that laid between us and our set meal B proved to be daunting beyond expectations.

line was busy during the first few attempts. understandable, and actually kind of oddly reassuring to know we're not the only indolent homo sapiens consuming junk food. after like 20 tries, we still refused to give up.

the 21st attempt proved to be successful. yay!

"welcome to *** delivery hotline. to place an order, please press 1."

so i did.

"Sorry, all our customer service operators are busy. *silence for 20 seconds* Your call is important to us. Pleas hold the line."

wow. here comes the real battle. i'm so glad i've had ample endurance training from trying to reach that elusive bank/telco customer service operator! those days of waiting on speaker phone, listening to endless repetitions of the same irritatingly pleasant music, and limited variations of recorded messages that try and keep you entertained but really just makes your blood boil coz the more they say "your call is important to us" the more u'll think "yeah right, if my call is important, i wouldn't be hearing YOU tell me that, recorded woman voice." ah...such fond memories. these are now proving useful in my quest to place a home delivery order.

"Please hold the ----- *silence*"

what?! has my line been cut off? i waited. and waited. nothing.

@&*#(&$%!!??

ok. patience. try again. after another series of unsuccessful tries, we got through again. pressed 1.

"Sorry, all our customer service operators are busy. We are unable to attend to your call in the next 8 minutes."

oh? 8 minutes? no problem! i'll wait!

after 8 mins...

*ringing tone* "Hello, welcome to *FC delivery. can i have your postal code please?"

"123456"

"Oh, so sorry, we're unable to deliver to your area now because of the heavy rain."

i looked out of my window. by that time, pouring rain had turned into feathery droplets gently falling from the grey sky.

"Huh?!"

"Yes mam, i'm sorry."

shocking.

aren't home deliveries supposed to be busiest on wet days precisely because customers don't wanna leave their homes to brave the rain for their next meal?

of course, i'm not saying that delivery crews should risk their lives for lazy people like me, but unless there's a raging thunderstorm or hail, a light drizzle shouldn't stop a multinational fast-food chain from satisfying its hungry customers, no?

i do hope the home delivery service at *FC improves soon. because, as much as i'm complaining about it now, i'm still a sucker for their original fried chicken, coleslaw and mash potato. :P

motivation

I'm watching the Beijing Olympics women's gymnastics individual all-round victory ceremony.

woah. that's a mouthful.

but anyway, Nastia Liukin from American is the new champion.

i'm deeply moved. the expression on her face says it all. she's put in hard work and effort; the reward, in the material form of a gold medal, is bigger than anything in the universe.

it must feel so good to be the best at what you do, and be recognized for it.

一份耕耘一份收获. one of the most fundamental principles in sports, and in life.

a new discovery

i've always doubted the effectiveness of whitening products.
now, i doubt no more. because i've finally found something that works for me!
introducing...Neutrogena's Fine Fairness range.
out of the whole range, these 2 are my most favourite products:
the night cream...rich and moisturizing, works wonders for skin whitening!
the peel mask...there's a tingling sensation when applied on the skin, got me a bit worried at first, but having used it for weeks, i'm totally convinced that it works. skin is not just fairer, but also finer and more translucent with a healthy glow!
come check out the products this wkend: Sat 3pm Watsons at Ngee Ann City, Sun 2pm Guardian at Suntec City
p.s. i'll be there to share my personal experience...jiahui will be there too. see ya... :)

Ruthless killing in Akihabara, Tokyo

The thought that i was there walking down the busy streets of Akihabara less than a month ago sends a chill down my spine. the sense of familiarity associated with the junction where this tragedy happened is both saddening and disturbing.

(article from xin.sg)

female toilet at daimaru, JR tokyo station. hands down, cleanest public toilet in a shopping centre i've ever seen. i was actually reluctant to leave, but had to eventually (after checking out almost every cubicle and corner) coz was rushing for a train...

off the beaten track - this is a seaside town about 2 hours from tokyo by train. headed here for a night's stay at a ryokan by the beach.

just got to know that green tea mcflurry is now available in sg, but the one here sure pales in comparison to this one i had in shimoda.

room at shimoda yamatokan. website

room package is not cheap, but it includes dinner and breakfast. and by dinner, they mean 3 dinners! just look at the spread...and this is just part of the many many course meal.

the greyish, slimy thingy is abalone sashimi...and it's alive!! kinda freaked me out to see it moving...was glad it didn't have a face to show expression nor a voice to cry, coz it had to be struggling in pain on that hotpot that was cooking it to death...

me in traditional onsen attire...the Yukata!

view from the room

located on the 2nd storey of a 3-storey muji outlet somewhere in Ginza, this is Meal Muji the restaurant. have always liked Muji as a lifestyle brand, so totally enjoyed myself eating here.

the food. simple, but good.

coffee from a famous mobile cafe at one of my favourite places in tokyo: daikanyama 代官山

haha. check out the 2 of us...one is acting cute, the other is...also acting cute.

out of the so little time we had together, diya brought me to this wonderful place that sells really good crepe! thanks babe.

"when you wish upon a star...makes no difference who you are...anything your heart desires will come to you..."
ah. my very 1st trip to a theme park. seriously. when i was a little girl, i dreamt about going to one, but that dream never came true, and was gradually abandoned. wasn't too keen on going initially, but almost everyone who knew about my trip told me how magical and wonderful a place disney is...with reservations and a little anticipation, i boarded the train bound for tokyo disneysea...and spent an entire day living my childhood dream. :)

tower of terror: favourite ride at disneysea!! awesome. i took it twice.

seashell burger at the little mermaid world! haha...so cute but not that yummy.

Calling all online gamers...

an old classmate of mine has recently started an online game, looks pretty cool!

Fresbo world is a 3D online game with cute Japanese manga characters that you can use to go shopping, dress up or utilize in applications. There’s a Pass the Bomb game that's kinda like a segment in some Taiwanese variety show. To all those who like online games- please check it out!
